This is exactly why coworking exists

Working in suboptimal conditions can cause outbursts like this

Thanks Myerman.

Not everyone out there would word it exactly like you did, but there are many people out there who share the sentiment.

Working in a restaurant (or coffee shop for that matter) and expecting a good environment for getting work done is like trying to win a NASCAR race driving a school bus. It’s just not going to happen.

Sure, work can be done in restaurants, coffee shops, and now with Clear you can work while riding a horse. But none of these situations are designed for getting work done. Coworking facilities are designed to get work done. Real work.

WordPress Installfest is Tomorrow – It’s not too late to register

April 10, 12-5pm

Learn how to install WordPress on your laptop so you can experiment & hack up a theme.

We’ll also go through building a small starter WordPress site for a small business, including outlining a site structure, setting up widgets, picking a basic theme & customizing the code enough to make it unique and custom to you.

WordPress is, simply put, everywhere. From the New York Times & the Wall Street Journal to my mom’s quilt guild, WordPress is in use by people needing simple-to-use yet powerful content management system software.

Join us at Cospace and learn how to get started with a local install of WordPress.

Howdy Neighbor!

Kyle de Haas, one of our new members at Cospace, penned a great writeup on us for one of the neighborhood newsletters this month. Titled “Coworking: an Alternative to the Home Office,” it’s a nice mention & one of what we hope to be many outreaches to our neighbors here in North Austin.

The Crestview Neighborhood Newsletter is published monthly by the Crestview Neighborhood Association & can be found online at crestviewna.org.

Winner in Our “Help Us With This Room” Contest

Last week we had a contest.  We reached out to our community and asked them to help us figure out what to do with our extra room.  We had a lot of great ideas for the space.

A couple of people suggested we use the room as a resource room.  We could have books, magazines and other tutorials on a variety of topics, like programming, development, writing, finance, accounting, etc.  We like this idea.  We have already started a library with books on many of those topics.

A few other people suggested we use the room as a combination room for smaller meetings, or video conferencing and video blogging.  This is an interesting idea.  More and more people are starting to utilize video, especially now that we have so many options to produce HD quality movies under $300.

And then we had one off the wall suggestion from a member who I won’t name (The Cospace Mayor).  He suggested we use the room as a shrine to him, either with a huge mural, Sistine Chapel style, or with several photos of him placed throughout the room.

Obviously, we wanted to make the room useful, and a resource for more than just one person.  So the Mayor’s suggestion is out.  The resource idea is awesome.  It is one that we are already pursuing.  We just don’t want to limit it to one room.  Any of the books we have now are available for use by anyone who comes in the space.

So, we are going to turn the room into a conference room/video room.  It will be a great place for members to hold their 2-4 person person client meetings.  We have the larger rooms, but they are really designed for larger groups.

And finally, we want to announce Leah Weinberger of W&WW as the winner of our $25 Alamo Gift Card.  Thank you to everyone who submitted a suggestion.

Andrew
